Overview
Setting the stage: Innovation in action
Welch LLP, an Ottawa-based accounting firm with over 100 years of history, prides itself on innovation and adaptability in the face of change. The company recently transitioned to a smaller, more efficient office space and sought to modernize its operations to align with hybrid work and employee preferences. Guided by their vision, “We make the complex simple,” Welch needed to optimize space utilization, accommodate flexible desk options, and streamline IT operations.
Challenge
The hybrid hurdle: Space and tech challenges
Welch LLP faced two major challenges: adapting to hybrid work and managing a reconfiguration in office space—moving from five floors to one-and-a-half floors.
“We realized that we were using our space a lot differently than we had before. There were still a lot of people working from home, and the challenge was making effective use of the space that we had,” explains Graham Conte, Director of IT.
To accommodate this new reality, Welch adopted a flex desk model where roughly two-thirds of desks were bookable for employee use as opposed to being assigned to specific employees. However, the previous systems Welch originally used created inefficiencies and lacked useful insights. Utilization data was inconsistent, as employees needed to manually check into their reservations.
The Welch team to further compound the problem, Welch’s IT team found themselves frequently troubleshooting technology issues at workstations.
Welch needed a solution that could provide real-time visibility into workplace utilization, improve desk management, and reduce the IT workload—all while improving employee experience.
Solution
Tech that works: Building a flexible future
After researching options, Conte discovered Logi Dock Flex and the Logitech Sync portal, seeing an opportunity to address Welch’s challenges head on. The firm conducted a three-month test pilot with three Logi Dock Flex systems. After a successful pilot, Welch installed Logi Dock Flex across roughly 200 flex desks. This not only empowered employees to book desks and check in automatically just by plugging in, but it gave IT centralized management through Logitech Sync software.
“Sync gives us the ability to manage devices, troubleshoot remotely, and log into systems as if we were standing right in front of them,” says Conte. “It has the pretty graphs and visuals you’d expect, but it also has the nitty-gritty data we need to truly understand our space utilization.”
In addition to desk systems, Welch upgraded its meeting environments with Logitech Rally Bar video conferencing cameras, Tap Schedulers, and other video conference technology, ensuring consistent user experiences.
“Now, employees just walk into a meeting room, push a button, and the system starts up. The technology fades into the background, letting them focus on their work,” Conte says.
The firm also uses Logitech Select services, ensuring fast, reliable replacements for any damaged equipment.
“We can't have equipment down for a long period of time, especially with desks…people need the workstations online, and with Select, having such a quick turnaround limits our worries there We know that Logitech always has our back, and we're able to get a quick replacement when we need it,” says Nick Earle, Help Desk Team Lead

90% Reduction in Time Spent on Desk Management: Eliminating manual processes for tracking desk usage has reduced the time spent on desk management. “Through the new docking system, I’ve reduced the time spent on this hoteling system by 90%. What used to take me 20 hours a week is now less than two,” says Kuilder.
